Collection: Cloisonne Enamel
Cloisonne enamel is a worldwide traditional craft that originated in ancient Egypt in B.C., and modern techniques are thought to have been introduced to Japan around the Nara period. Although the names of the techniques in the West, China, and Japan are different, the same techniques have been handed down in all of them. Japanese cloisonne enamel ware gained worldwide attention when a number of Japanese artists who exhibited at the Paris Expo won awards.
Cloisonne ware is said to derive its name from the beauty of the seven jewels (cloisonne) found in Buddhist scriptures.
Cloisonne ware is one of the traditional craft techniques of firing metals such as gold, silver, and copper at high temperatures using beautiful glassy glazes. Its vivid patterns and shimmering texture created by firing the glaze are what create its charm.
In modern times, they are also popular as accessories such as brooches, pendants, earrings, and so on.
